The Power of Prayer?

I don't think of myself as a religious person but I do believe in the power of prayer. I think sometimes we need something like prayer to hold on to because it makes the day-to-day a bit easier in times of uncertainty and helplessness. Right now I am overcome with helplessness and I all I can think to do is pray and hope the power of prayer works.
